India is putting a significant effort on the Sustainability front. In one of the recently held meetups, the Union Cabinet of India gave a green light for the Memorandum of Cooperation between India and Japan in the sphere of sustainable urban development.
The cooperation is expected to create potential avenues of employment in the field of Waste Management and Sustainable Urban Development.
Under the roof of Sustainable Urban Development, MoC will cover operations such as Affordable Housing, Smart City Projects, Urban Planning & Urban Flood Management, Sewage and Grey-water management, Urban transport, and Development of Disaster-resilient Projects.
To strategize and execute the programs devised under the framework of MoC, a group called Joint Working Group (JWG) will be established. The JWG will schedule a meet every once a year, alternatively in Japan and in India, to discuss the progress of the programs.
This cooperation, which is set to span five years, will encourage strong, deep, and long-term intergovernmental cooperation between the two countries in the field of sustainable urban development.
The Union Cabinet has also been informed of an understanding Memorandum of Understanding for the implementation of a sustainable urban development program agreed between the Ministry for Housing and Urban Affairs and the Ministry of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure, Maldives.
The MoU's goal is to enable and promote technical collaboration between India and the Maldives in the areas of sustainable urban development, such as urban planning, smart city development, solid waste management, affordable housing, urban green mobility, and urban mass rapid transit.
