Cosmo Films, a renowned Indian Multinational Corporation, known for making Bi-axially Oriented Polypropylene (BOPP) films utilised in packaging, label, and lamination applications, revealed setting up a new carbon compaction plant in the valleys of Jammu & Kashmir.
The installation of the plant project was undertaken by Cosmo Foundation, a CSR arm of Cosmo Films. The project was amongst one of their green initiatives and is installed to support the Indian Army, by allowing the processing of the non-biodegradable waste generated around the locally-stationed army base in the Poonch and Mendhar districts of J & K.
The new Tetra Pack Milk (TPM) compacting plant will compact empty TPM cartons into small pellets that will be cost-effectively transported to a recycling plant in Khatima, Uttarakhand, to supplement the current compacting plant located in the Rajouri town of Jammu & Kashmir.
Cosmo Foundation built the advanced compacting plant as part of its sustainability initiative to reduce the non-biodegradable annual waste of 12,00,000 empty Tetra Pak one-litre milk cartons consumed by the Indian army.
In the difficult terrain of the valley, fresh products are rare. For the troops posted at the frontier, the Indian Army purchases produce from civil traders in Karnataka, Jaipur, Punjab, and Maharashtra for their daily rations.
According to Yamini Jaipuria, the Managing Trustee of the Cosmo Foundation, the installation of the compacting plant will aid in creating a sustainable recycling chain in the Valleys of J & K and is expected to be a step forward under Cosmo Foundation's Green and Clean Initiatives.
Mrs. Jaipuria added that it's a proud moment for Cosmo Foundation to come forward and provide support to the Indian Army through this small environmental step.
