The Beverage giant Coca-Cola, on the occasion of Global Recycling Day, unravelled its vision of creating a ‘World without Plastic’. To start with, Coca-Cola India revealed that it will work in close connection with different stakeholders of the plastic recycling system starting with waste management service providers such as waste collectors, municipalities to recyclers.
Coca-Cola India is already into strategic associations with various stakeholders for waste collection and recycling. The company justified that its efforts are in line with the Government of India’s Swachh Bharat Mission, and the more recent Amendments to the Plastic Waste Management Rules, 2016, which, on the surface, expects to phase out Single-use Plastics by the end of 2022.
Hindustan Coca-Cola Beverages Private Limited (HCCBPL) in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) flagged off the initiative named Project Prithvi, for end-to-end plastic waste management.
The project is expected to be rolled out in 50 cities across India.
Talking about the other strategic partnerships the Coca-Cola India is into, the Beverage Major revealed that for Karo Sambhav, the company has partnered with the Packaging Association for Clean Environment (PACE).
The Beverage Major added that “We aim to develop a system that enables inclusion, ethics, transparency, good governance and traceability of waste.” Being well-aware of the Environmental Protection Responsibility, the company is earnestly working on developing lightweight packaging and introducing novel packaging solutions across the globe through its ‘World Without Waste initiative.
Establishment of Material Recovery Facilities, along with partnering with Date with Ocean, Support My School, Alag Karo are other crucial initiatives that are successfully implemented in different parts of India, Giving more value to their efforts the company added that, “Coca-Cola India Foundation, HCCBPL and our Franchise Bottling operations along with partners are working relentlessly to develop sustainable, community-led programmes for integrated plastic waste management and promote efficient recycling in India.”
