Stroll around the streets of Mumbai, or across any street in India, and something is annoying that will catch your attention. Spitting!
One of the main culprits is the chewing of Gutkha and Pan-masalas, a tobacco-based, highly addictive preparation, largely consumed in India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and a few regions in Nepal.
The spitting of Gutkhas and Pan-masalas has become the most visible nuisance on the streets of Mumbai.
To pull off such nuisance completely, the Municipal Corporation of Mumbai has suggested a sharp increase in the fine amount from the existing 200/- to directly 1200/-.
A plea was proposed to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) chief Iqbal Singh Chahal for the revision of the fine amount.
As soon as the BMC clears the plea, the proposal will be forwarded to the State Government for final approval, after which the responsibility of execution will be carried out by the solid waste management (SWM) department under the rein of the additional municipal commissioner.
